This effort wants to connect you to likeminded people - online and offline - with no membership fees, no product pitches, and a fresh look at networking. We're here to help you find your support group: the people you want to brainstorm with, who you call when you need a push in the right direction, who will give you an honest opinion when you need it most. Florida Creatives Happy Hours are for professionals, hobbyists, entrepreneurs, consultants and everyone else too - no matter what your creative pursuit is. This website and our other online presences reinforce the connections you make at events, and help our members discover and publish what's new.
Our site is a container for lots of great content. The most common posts on the site are Discussions in the Forum and Events in the Calendar. Any member can add a Community or Meetup to the Directory or a Job Listing in a group. Members are also encouraged to record Podcast Episodes.
If you want to be here, you belong. The first step is to register or login and join some groups. You'll get email updates about new posts and comments in all your groups.
Our groups are all over the state: we have long-running meetups in Orlando and Brevard County, and satellite efforts in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lakeland, South Florida, Southwest Florida, Tallahassee, and the Tampa Area. If you are interested in seeing these networks grow, get on the discussion list and shout out to the other creatives in your area. We also have interest-based groups for specific industries, disciplines and free event, forum and wiki hosting for meetup groups.
The Wiki on the site is broken out into several areas to collect information - places to get wi-fi, great local resources, companies or artists in your area, and more. Anyone who registers can edit pages or add new ones. There are some pointers in the Help wiki. We are collecting awesome tutorials in the Guides wiki.
Join Orlando's longest-running creative meetup to celebrate their 5th year of bringing likeminded people together. There will be food and drinks (though you may BYOB), homemade Christmas cookies, a Piñata, and a lot more surprises. Urban ReThink has a great location with ample parking. RSVP at http://flcreatives.com/5 and check back for more details.
About FLCreatives Happy Hour
Whether you're a poet, an actor, a photographer, a producer, a marketer, a programmer, an entrepreneur or a combination of them all, you'll find some great conversation and new friends by attending, and coming back every month on the third Monday.
If you'd like to see events like this in your town, feel free to start one! We now have Facebook Fan Pages and LinkedIn Groups for Orlando, Brevard, Tampa, South Florida, Southwest FL, Tallahassee and Gainesville. P.S. Please bring a camera and snap some photos! You'll want to show your friends what it was like.
The Cade Museum Foundation is pleased to announce its third annual competition to encourage Florida inventors and entrepreneurs. The 2012 CADE MUSEUM PRIZE consists of a $50,000 cash award, funded through a generous grant from the Gainesville Community Foundation.
Likemind is before work (8AM), it happens downtown, and everyone is welcome. Bring a few friends, get some coffee, and tell us what's on your mind. We've been having some healthy turnout in the past few months. If you're getting something out of this event, please invite some friends. Since Urban ReThink is open now, and the Virgin Olive Market is serving coffee and food, let's meet up in Thornton Park. Street parking is abundant, so I don't want to hear any parking complaints. Also, meeting in downtown is part of the spirit of this event.
Groups in 60+ other cities all over the world will be getting together for conversations with their community - sure, they may not have 2+ years of these events behind them, but we do. More than 3 years ago, I heard about these two marketing guys / geeks from New York who had started an event they held on Friday mornings for coffee and conversation. The first few were just the two of them, but as they invited people and the word got out, it grew until it started getting on the radar all over the world. Now Likemind happens in scores of cities on every continent, and Orlando has been on that list almost since the beginning.
WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. WordCamps are open to WordPress.com and WordPress.org users alike.
WordCamps are attended by people ranging from blogging newbies to professional WordPress developers and consultants, and usually combine scheduled programming with unconference sessions and other activities.
Click through on each one for a full description of what each session will cover.

Calling all technology fans and professionals—Tech Thursdays is here for you!
This month offeres three focal points:
1) Networking
We'll kick off with some informal and formal networking games and ice-breakers. There will be quite a mix of folks from technology, social media, marketing and other circles in attendance. (the local PHP group promises to bring all their posse, too)
2) Brand Dot You: Learn to Simplify and Promote Your “Social Self”
Show and Tell, for adults! Show us a project you've been working on, your favorite book, your wallet, your new haircut, an abstract idea you think we should all know about, a love letter, a scarf, a new gadget, or tell a great story from another creative community. Let us get inside the story, or see behind the process, introduce us to something new and amazing.
This will be our sixth month of Show and Tell - we have had some really amazing presenters in the first few months, and I am optimistic about the possibilities for this event in the future.
Show and Tell was proud to be featured in the Orlando Sentinel's Calendar last month:
